  A longtime CIA officer who spent much of her career doing clandestine work, Gina Haspel won confirmation from the Senate on Thursday to head the agency. Haspel will become the first woman to be director of the agency. She has been criticized for supervising a CIA black site in Thailand where detainees were brutally interrogated but had the support of numerous former intelligence and national security officials. They described her as a proven leader with experience making tough calls.
