The Royal Canadian Geographical Society

Hello,

In recent months, the notion of one global home has been top of mind for us all. Watching the COVID-19 virus spread around the world with little sense of borders has brought to life the reality that we all share one planet.

Studying geography helps prepare children and adults alike for a future that is ever more globally connected. It helps us build a deeper understanding of how we live together — providing us with a clearer sense of how to move forward in these unprecedented times.

This #GivingTuesdayNow, tomorrow Tues., May 5, The Royal Canadian Geographical Society invites you to help us ensure that educators, children and parents at home have the tools and resources they need to explore and appreciate the natural world, and better use our planet’s resources. The Society has already begun this important work. In response to a need for curricular-based education tools, Canadian Geographic Education launched the #OnlineClassrom to provide weekly-updated content for all students learning at home. And Canadian Geographic has created a dedicated microsite where Can Geo writers, cartographers and photographers are sharing important stories about COVID-19 and how it is changing Canada and the world.

Over the past weeks Canadian Geographic Education membership numbers have risen to more than 25,000.  Across the county, members are thanking us for providing invaluable education tools. “We do value geography very highly and draw on the up-to-date resources you supply. We are revamping our geography curriculum in part to take advantage of what you offer. I just want to encourage you to keep providing resources and advocating for the importance of geography in our democracy.”Ymko, Canadian Geographic Education member
