Glen Maxion is an award winning artist whose work depicts the people, beaches, light and color of Southern California. Glen's artistic studies have been largely self-directed and his work spans more than 25 years. He began his career working in watercolor using quick gesture drawings as the foundation for minimalist studies in rhythm and color. Today he works primarily in soft pastel and oils, and carries over the spontaneity and energy of his earlier work to more complex compositions. The figure remains the principle subject of his art. The beach has replaced the studio as the backdrop for his inspiration, with San Diego beachgoers serving as his un-choreographed models. Glen's paintings have been exhibited in such venues as The Butler Institute of American Art, The National Arts Club and Salmagundi Club in New York, The Pasadena Museum of California Art, and the Hilbert Museum of California Art. Glen was awarded the Master's Circle Medallion by the International Association of Pastel Societies in 2016 and achieved their Eminent Pastelist distinction in 2021. Glen has also earned the designation Master Pastelist from the Pastel Society of America, is an Artist Member of the California Arts Club, and a Signature member of the Hudson Valley Art Association.
