Perseverance can pay

Good Morning Voornaam,

There are two brand new podcast episodes for you to enjoy this morning.

The first is Ghost Wrap, brought to you by Mazars and giving you the most important details on recent news from Glencore, Anglo American, Sibanye-Stillwater, Capital Appreciation, MTN Nigeria and Prosus. You can find it here>>>

With the whirlwind that is Ghost Wrap out of the way, settle down with something warm to drink and enjoy a far more in-depth discussion on Ghost Stories with Nico Katzke, Head of Portfolio Solutions at Satrix and frankly just a wonderful mind to learn from. We debate d a topic that is close to every South African's heart: investing locally vs. offshore. For an objective discussion, listen to this episode of Ghost Stories>>>

And while you're busy learning, bookmark this recording of Unlock the Stock to come back to later. TWK Investments returned to the platform to talk about the latest period (which was a tough one) along with the prospects of the company. It's been a busy few weeks on Unlock the Stock, so you can also watch recent recordings of Astoria (here), CA Sales Holdings (here) and PPC Limited (here).

Glencore is proof that if at first you don't succeed...

...send aggressive letters and dangle a bigger carrot in front of shareholders.

After the Teck Resources board tried hard to block the Glencore proposal, the company took matters into its own hands by writing an open letter to shareholde rs. It seems to have worked, as the Teck board has withdrawn the restructuring proposal that was on the table before Glencore swooped in and ruined the party. Or made it better, depending on how you view these things. And being Glencore, of course, the Teck deal isn't the only one that the company has been busy with.

For details on an interesting transaction in Brazil, along with updates from Industrials REIT, MC Mining, MTN Nigeria (this one worries me), Reinet, Sasol and Southern Palladium, be sure to read your Ghost Bites at this link>>>

Using alternative assets in a portfolio

Particularly in this environment where everything is uncertain and asset prices aren't necessarily behaving themselves, having uncorrelated exposure in a portfolio can be a very good thing. Regular listeners of Magic Markets have learnt a great deal about alternative assets from the team at Westbrooke. In the latest example, Dino Zuccollo of Westbrooke returned to the show and was joined by Matthew Norwood-Young and Peter Little of Anchor Capital for a well-rounded discussion on alternative assets and how to use them in a portfolio. Find it here>>>

Sideways until FOMC

The rand and other currencies traded sideways on Friday, with PCE inflation coming out as expected at 4.6%. Keep an eye on the news around First Republic Bank and the banking issues in the US. Those issues aside, the market will be firmly focused on the FOMC meeting this week.

Remember, you can subscribe to the TreasuryONE YouTube channel for regular updates on the key macroeconomic drivers in the market.

It's another short week and the last one for some time. That's a relief for entrepreneurs and a sigh of disappointment for those who fill in leave forms! Either way, enjoy today's content once you've made it through your busy mailbox.

Ghost Bites (Glencore | Industrials REIT | MC Mining | MTN | Reinet | Sasol | Southern Palladium)

Glencore is a deal machine. Industrials REIT remains defensive. MTN Nigeria is under earnings pressure. Sasol raises US funding. Quarterly updates from MC Mining, Reinet and Southern Palladium.

TWK Investments returned to the Unlock the Stock platform to discuss tough recent numbers and the outlook for the group.

Unlock the Stock: TWK Investments

This week's Ghost Wrap starts with a heavy mining focus, takes a meander through fintech and telecoms and ends up at the simplest way of all to unlock value. Ghost Wrap is brought to you by Mazars.

In Episode 13 of Ghost Stories, Nico Katzke of Satrix returned to the platform to discuss a variety of topics around a central theme that is critical to all South Africans: the local vs. offshore debate.

Dino Zuccollo from Westbrooke is joined by Matthew Norwood-Young and Peter Little of Anchor Capital, bringing the number of guests on this show to three! We had a well-rounded discussion on alternative assets and their place in portfolios.

You should expect us in your inbox Monday – Friday. If you don’t receive an email, please check your spam, or junk folder and “move us” into your primary inbox to ensure you get it each morning.
