| Hello. While the Trump administration has brushed off global markets' reaction to their tariffs announcement, my colleagues speak to auto workers in Canada who fear for their future. BBC medical editor Fergus Walsh and global health producer Camilla Horrox witness the assisted death of a man in California who wanted to show the world what the procedure is like. And finally, scientists find out how alcohol affects fruit flies' chances of mating. | |

TOP OF THE AGENDA | Canada's auto workers on edge over tariffs |
|
| | Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that Canada would hit back with its own tariffs. Credit: Ali Abbas Ahmadi/BBC | US stocks recorded the sharpest drop since 2020 on Thursday in the aftermath of President Donald Trump's tariffs announcement. Vice-President JD Vance told Newsmax that it was just “one bad day”, while Trump told reporters he expects a "boom". Workers in tariff-affected sectors don't share the optimism. In Canada, automobile industry workers are bracing for the impact of a 25% tariff on foreign cars that kicked in this week. Nadine Yousif and Ali Abbas Ahmadi heard workers' concerns from a Stellantis plant in Ontario that temporarily shut down for the week over the new tariffs. |

The 80-year-old had less than six months to live, qualifying him for assisted death in California. He invited the BBC to witness his death as the UK and other countries debate legalising the controversial practice. |

And finally... | Scientists have been trying to study why fruit flies are attracted to alcohol. Previous research suggested the flies were seeking a substitute for the high of mating among males rejected by females. But according to a new study, alcohol makes male fruit flies more attractive, increasing their chances of mating. | |
