Aireon, FlightAware: GlobalBeacon flight tracking goes live

Satellite-based surveillance system developer Aireon and flight tracking data specialist FlightAware on Nov. 5 said they have activated their GlobalBeacon flight-tracking offering for airlines, days before an ICAO tracking recommendation takes effect.


ANA 1H net income down 38% on rising costs, natural disasters

Japan’s All Nippon Airways Holdings (ANA) reported a 2018 first-half net profit of ¥73.7 billion ($651 million), down 38% compared to net profit of ¥118.3 million in the 2017 1H, although the prior-year profit was boosted by extraordinary income as Peach Aviation became a consolidated subsidiary.

Icelandair agrees to buy WOW Air

Icelandair agreed to buy local rival WOW Air Nov. 5 in a move that could end a battle for dominance at both carriers’ Keflavik home base. The airlines will maintain their brands and operate as separate entities following different models, according to the takeover agreement.

Brazilian LCC GOL Airlines, battered by higher fuel expenses and currency fluctuations, posted a steep third-quarter loss of BRL409 million ($110 million), reversed from a net income of BRL329.9 million in the year-ago quarter.
