Type 2 Diabetes and the Use of Real-Time Continuous Glucose Monitoring

Based on literature review, we summarized current data on the use of rtCGM in T2D management and provided future research direction to generate more evidence on the utility of CGM in this population (Diabetes Technology and Therapeutics)

Impact of COVID-19 on Health Economics and Technology of Diabetes Care: Use Cases of Real-Time Continuous Glucose Monitoring to Transform Health Care During a Global Pandemic

One critical and lasting consequence of the pandemic will be the accelerated adoption of digital technology in health care delivery. We conclude by discussing ways in which the changes wrought by COVID-19 from a health care, policy, and economics perspective can add value and are likely to endure postpandemic (Diabetes Technology and Therapeutics)

Therapeutic inertia in the management of dyslipidaemia and hypertension in incident type 2 diabetes and the resulting risk factor burden: real‐world evidence from primary care

Significant delay in initiating cardioprotective therapies was observed, time to first prescription was similar in primary prevention people irrespective of ASCVD risk status across all T2DM diagnosis age groups, resulting in poor risk factor control over 2‐years follow‐up (Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism)

Diabetes induces dysregulation of microRNAs associated with survival, proliferation and self-renewal in cardiac progenitor cells

Our results demonstrate that diabetes mellitus induces a marked dysregulation of miRNAs associated with stem cell survival, proliferation and differentiation, and that therapeutic overexpression of prosurvival miR-30c-5p reduced diabetes-induced cell death and loss of MMP in CPCs via the newly identified target for miR-30c-5p, VDAC1 (Diabetologia)

Global prevalence of metabolic syndrome among patients with type I diabetes mellitus: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Nearly a quarter of the type 1 diabetes mellitus patients were affected by metabolic syndrome. Therefore, more attention should be paid to the prevention and control of the epidemic and for the reduction of the morbidity and mortality associated with metabolic syndrome among type 1 diabetes mellitus patients (Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome)

Severe Hypoglycemia Risk With Long-Acting Insulin Analogs vs Neutral Protamine Hagedorn Insulin

In this cohort study, initiation of long-acting analogs was associated with a lower risk of ED visits or hospitalizations for hypoglycemia compared with NPH insulin in older patients with type 2 diabetes in Medicare. However, this association was not seen with concomitant prandial insulin use (JAMA)

Anti-interleukin-21 antibody and liraglutide for the preservation of β-cell function in adults with recent-onset type 1 diabetes: a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase 2 trial

The combination of anti-IL-21 and liraglutide could preserve β-cell function in recently diagnosed type 1 diabetes. The efficacy of this combination appears to be similar to that seen in trials of other disease-modifying interventions in type 1 diabetes, but with a seemingly better safety profile (The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology)

The SWEET Project 10-Year Benchmarking in 19 Countries Worldwide Is Associated with Improved HbA1c and Increased Use of Diabetes Technology in Youth with Type 1 Diabetes

Twice yearly benchmarking within the SWEET registry was associated with significantly improved HbA1c on a background of increasing pump and sensor use for 10 years in young persons with T1D (Diabetes Technology and Therapeutics)

Effect of empagliflozin on ectopic fat stores and myocardial energetics in type 2 diabetes: the EMPACEF study

EMPA effectively reduced liver fat in mice and humans without changing epicardial, myocardial fat or myocardial energetics, rebutting the thrifty substrate hypothesis for cardiovascular protection of SGLT2 inhibitors (Cardiovascular Diabetology)

The DAFNEplus programme for sustained type 1 diabetes self‐management: Intervention development using the Behaviour Change Wheel

This method provided a systematic approach to specifying and revising a behaviour change intervention incorporating stakeholder input. The revised DAFNEplus intervention aims to support the maintenance of behavioural changes by targeting barriers and enablers to sustaining self‐management behaviours (Diabetic Medicine)
