The Burden of Type 2 Diabetes and the Value of Achieving Near Normoglycemia from the Patient Perspective

People with T2D have a high disease burden, a broad range of unmet needs, and extremely varied experiences and expectations on the impacts of T2D on their lives and future. Many patients indicated that achieving near normoglycemia would substantially change their lives primarily in terms of their physical and emotional health (Diabetes Therapy)

Glycemic Control, Diabetic Complications, and Risk of Dementia in Patients With Diabetes: Results From a Large U.K. Cohort Study

Higher or unstable HbA1c levels and the presence of diabetic complications in patients with type 2 diabetes are associated with increased dementia risk. Effective management of glycemia might have a significant role in maintaining cognitive health among older adults with diabetes (Diabetes Care)

Intralymphatic Glutamic Acid Decarboxylase With Vitamin D Supplementation in Recent-Onset Type 1 Diabetes

Intralymphatic administration of GAD-alum is a simple, well-tolerated treatment that together with vitamin D supplementation seems to preserve C-peptide in patients with recent-onset T1D carrying HLA DR3-DQ2. This constitutes a disease-modifying treatment for T1D with a precision medicine approach (Diabetes Care)

Usefulness of skin advanced glycation end products to predict coronary artery calcium score in patients with type 2 diabetes

Our finding suggests that SAF could be useful in selecting T2D patients in whom the screening for CAD by means of CACs assessment would be more cost-effective (Acta Diabetologica)

Prediabetes and risk of heart failure: the link grows stronger

This study provides important evidence that the risk of heart failure is increased in people with a fasting plasma glucose concentration as low as 100 mg/dL, supporting the definition of prediabetes according to the American Diabetes Association guideline (Cardiovascular Diabetology)

Factors Associated With Key Outcomes in Diabetes Related Foot Disease: A Prospective Observational Study

This prospective study supports the ability of the WIfI classification system to predict one year key clinical outcomes in a diabetic population with foot ulcers. It also demonstrated that grip strength may be a useful predictor of wound healing (European Journal of Vascular & Endovascular Surgery)

Intralymphatic Glutamic Acid Decarboxylase With Vitamin D Supplementation in Recent-Onset Type 1 Diabetes: A Double-Blind, Randomized, Placebo-Controlled Phase IIb Trial

Gut microbiota changes after metabolic surgery in adult diabetic patients with mild obesity: a randomised controlled trial

This was the first RCT studying composite clinical, analytic, and microbiome changes in T2DM patients with class 1 obesity after RYGB versus standard medical therapy. The remarkable phenotypic improvement after surgery occurred concomitantly with changes in the gut microbiome, but at a lower level (Diabetology & Metabolic Syndrome)
