Youth-Onset Type 2 Diabetes: The Epidemiology of an Awakening Epidemic

In this narrative review, we describe the epidemiology (prevalence, incidence, temporal trends, and projections) of type 2 diabetes among children and adolescents (<20 years), focusing on data from the U.S. and reporting global estimates where available. Secondarily, we discuss the clinical course of youth-onset type 2 diabetes, from prediabetes to complications and comorbidities (Diabetes Care)

Initiation of Continuous Glucose Monitoring Is Linked to Improved Glycemic Control and Fewer Clinical Events in Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes in the Veterans Health Administration

In a large national cohort, initiation of CGM was associated with sustained improvement in HbA1c in patients with later-onset T1D and patients with T2D using insulin (Diabetes Care)

Emerging Role of Sodium–Glucose Co-Transporter 2 Inhibitors for the Treatment of Chronic Kidney Disease

We discuss the findings of recent large clinical trials using sodium–glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors in patients with chronic kidney disease and diabetic kidney disease, summarize safety aspects, and outline the practical management of patients with chronic kidney disease in the Philippines (International Journal of Nephrology and Renovascular Disease)

Serum Cortistatin Level in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Its Relationship with Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

T2DM was related to decreased serum CST. However, serum CST was correlated with HOMA-β in T2DM patients, while HOMA-IR was not. There was no correlation between CST and NAFLD (International Journal of General Medicine)

Adherence patterns to oral hypoglycemic agents among primary care patients with type 2 diabetes

Primary care PPP interventions incorporating social determinants may be effective in fostering and improving patient adherence (Primary Care Diabetes)

GLP-1 Receptor Agonists Induce Growth Hormone Secretion in Healthy Volunteers

The results show that the administration of GLP-1RAs may elicit an increase in growth hormone levels. GLP-1 signalling may be a novel mechanism of regulation of GH secretion. This finding needs to be replicated in the placebo-controlled trial (Diabetes Therapy)

Niclosamide from an anthelmintic drug to a promising adjuvant therapy for diabetic kidney disease: randomized clinical trial

The addition of niclosamide to patients with diabetic kidney disease receiving an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor significantly reduces albumin excretion. Further larger-scale trials are needed to confirm our results (Diabetology & Metabolic Syndrome)
