GMO? Soon you won't know, if Australia's food regulator gets its way | Please take action to protect the global food supply | This Friday is the last day for submissions regarding Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ)’s proposed changes to food regulations that would allow a wide range of new genetically modified (GM) foods into the global food chain – with no regulation and no labelling. This could pose potential health risks and would seriously undermine our right to know how our food is produced.
These would include meat and milk from some genetically modified animals and substances like vanilla and stevia produced by genetically modified microbes in factory vats.
The companies that gave us Agent Orange, paraquat, Roundup and other toxins would be allowed to self-assess the safety and hazards of these new foods and ingredients, and to sell them without regulation or labelling.
Please take a few minutes to draft a short submission defending our right to know how our food is produced – take action here.
It's quick and easy, as a draft is already prepared for you. If you are not in Australia or New Zealand, please add to the draft that you are concerned about the implications of these proposed changes for new GM foods exported from those countries, as the integrity of the food supply would be threatened globally and trade disruptions and loss of consumer trust could result.
