Federal and state law enforcement agents could be seen coming in and out of the offices Constable Michelle Barrientes Vela on the Northwest Side at 7723 Guilbeau Road. All deputy constables were removed from the building, sources say. Federal investigators confirmed that they were also at Barrientes Vela's residence off of Eckhert Road, but would not go into detail about why. 12 voter registration events take place Tuesday around San Antonio Tuesday is National Voter Registration Day, a massive 50-state effort to register voters. Thousands of national, state and local organizations and volunteers will be the driving force. This year all the colleges and universities in San Antonio will be holding registration events. Chris Madrid's restaurant to reopen Tuesday The iconic San Antonio burger joint that has been closed for two years is set to reopen its restaurant doors Tuesday. KSAT's Myra Arthur got a chance to tour Chris Madrid's to view the changes made after a fire in October 2017 shut down the restaurant. Today's Headlines Troubled constable announces run for sheriff; unclear if she's aware of resign-to-run laws As the FBI and Texas Rangers raided her office, Precinct 2 Constable Michelle Barrientes Vela made time to formally announce her run at the Bexar County Sheriff's Office in 2020. "I've reconsidered my position here to seek another four years. I think with the support of my husband standing right next to me. We are going to go ahead and get formally announced (Monday) that yes, I will be seeking the chair and seat of the Sheriff's Office within Bexar County," Barrientes Vela said. Couple claims auto shop made them remove Trump sticker, shop says sticker was illegally placed A dispute at an auto shop over a President Trump bumper sticker is being characterized as a politically motivated attempt to chill a customer's right to free speech by the Republican Party of Bexar County. But the mechanic involved tells KSAT 12 that it is much simpler: the sticker was illegally placed and his request to remove it has nothing to do with politics. Major highway expansion scheduled for Loop 1604 A major billion dollar project that will expand a portion of Loop 1604 from four lanes to 10 is underway for Texas Department of Transportation. Laura Lopez, a spokeswoman for TxDOT, said the project is set to start construction in early 2021.
