Today's Headlines Boerne police officer hit by alleged drunken driver is honored at football game Boerne Police Officer and School Resource Officer Michele Van Stavern, along with several other first responders who also served as special guests, rushed the football field with the team on Thursday night. Van Stavern was struck and nearly killed by a suspected drunken driver while she was directing traffic following a football game in late August. Van Stavern said she's been "chugging along," regarding her recovery, and trying to adjust to a slower pace. Caught on camera: Surveillance video shows moments before shooting at Southeast Side food mart Newly released video shows the moment a masked man opened fire inside a Southeast Side food mart. The shooting happened Oct. 10 at the A-Z Food Mart in the 4000 block of East Southcross Boulevard. The surveillance video appears to show a man with dread locks holding one of the employees at gunpoint outside of the convenient store. A woman is seen getting away with the help of her mother, who is also an employee. SAFD: 8 rescued from VIA bus after getting stuck in high water Eight people were rescued from a VIA bus after it became stuck at a high-water crossing late Thursday night, San Antonio firefighters said Friday. The incident occurred just before 10 p.m. near some railroad tracks on Dreamland Drive, not far from the city of Castle Hills on the Northwest Side. Firefighters said all eight passengers were successfully rescued through the roof hatch about four hours later and no one was hurt.
