According to a preliminary police report, officers with SAPD Narcotics Unit were conducting surveillance before trying to serve a search warrant at a home considered “nuisance property” in the 300 block of Hot Wells Boulevard. Officers had a hard time entering the home because the front door was barricaded with a large piece of wood from the inside and an aggressive pit bull was guarding the back door, the report said. Multiple streetlights not lit may have contributed to pedestrian’s death The death of a pedestrian killed along a dark stretch of road is serving as a reminder to the community of San Antonio. Citizens are reminded to always report problems with streetlights to CPS Energy or to the city. San Antonio Police Department says a man not yet identified by the medical examiner’s officer was struck by a truck when he was crossing Culebra Road, just east of Loop 1604 Wednesday around 9 p.m. Police indicated in the report that the area was “extremely dark” due to several lights not being lit. Man in critical condition after being shot in head, police say A local man was taken to an area hospital following a shooting on the city’s East Side overnight, San Antonio police said. The shooting was called in just before 12:30 a.m. in the 4000 block of East Houston Street, not far from East Commerce Street and Interstate 10. According to police, an altercation occurred at The Edge Apartments and gunshots were fired. Authorities said the victim managed to pull into a nearby Valero gas station were he was found by emergency crews. The injured man was taken to Brooke Army Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the head. The 2.75-mile trek begins at 10 a.m. at MLK Academy at 3501 MLK Drive and ends at Pittman-Sullivan Park at 1101 Iowa.
