Take one of London's most fascinating tours at the
Palace of Westminster

The local elections might be over, but you've got another opportunity to feel the beating heart of democracy this month. The Chambers of the House of Commons and House of Lords — and other iconic spaces within the Palace of Westminster — are open to all through fascinating organised tours, available to book right now.

Step inside this most iconic of buildings and learn about the work of UK Parliament. Admire awe-inspiring architecture and stand in spaces where history is made. There are two types of tour to choose from. Self-guided audio tours allow you to explore at your own pace with the help of a multimedia device, making it a particularly good choice for families looking for some educational half-term entertainment. Prefer some company? Opt for a guided tour instead!

Both types of tour are running right now and throughout the summer. Click below to book yours, or read on to find out more about some of the spaces you'll soon be exploring.

The Lords Chamber

On a Palace of Westminster tour, you'll have the chance to explore one of the most-decorated rooms in the whole building: the House of Lords Chamber. This is where laws are made and shaped, where Lords and Baronesses sit to check and challenge the work of the government.

The Commons Chamber

Order! Order! Anyone with even a casual interest in UK politics will recognise this room. The House of Commons Chamber is where MPs come together to debate and vote on the issues of the day. The room was rebuilt following the Blitz, with a comparatively plain appearance and postwar austere style.

Central Lobby

Did you know that you can come and meet your MP at the Palace of Westminster? It happens in the buzzing hub that is Central Lobby — a lofty space featuring an ornate tiled floor, royal statues, and mosaics depicting the patron saints of all four constituent countries of the United Kingdom.

Westminster Hall

You're also free to explore the oldest building on the parliamentary estate on a Palace of Westminster tour. The magnificent Westminster Hall was erected in the 11th century and has been closely involved in the life of the nation for over 900 years, from state trials, to coronation banquets and ceremonial addresses.
