While the heavens declare the glory of God year-round, there’s something special about the summer. Warm weather and shifting schedules beckon us toward the beach, call us to camp, and move us to the mountains. Whether we’re diehard nature fans or rate our summer lodging options based on their proximity to a Target, the summertime tends to draw us out into the sunshine. “As we approach the summer solstice, our earth circling around a blazing mass of glory, I can’t help but think about how fragile our life on this planet is,” writes Hannah Anderson. “Just the right tilt of the axis, just the right distance, just the right length of orbit—all sustained by the One who first set it in motion and maintains it in a continual act of creation.” This summer, may we let the wild and wonderful world remind us of God’s incredible care for us. And, as Anderson writes, “when we feel the glow of the sun on our faces, when we feast under its lengthening rays, [may] we remember that our lives are sustained by its warmth in very real and practical ways.” |
