In an age of missing the forest for the trees, Dr. Ira Byock’s premise is almost revolutionary: Let’s make the last few years of living suck a little less.

The good doctor is irked. In a very gentle way, but still.

 ”I think it was Confucius who said that the beginning of wisdom is to call things by their correct name,” says Dr. Ira Byock, 67, founder and chief medical director at the Providence St. Joseph Health Institute for Human Caring in Torrance, California. “So to be perfectly grammatically correct and to be absolutely legit, let’s focus on the adverbs and the adjectives since what we’re really talking about is Dying Well.”

Which is exactly where throats start to get cleared and the death-phobic among us try to edge toward the exits. Because no matter the fact that each and every person alive to read this must one day perish, none of us wants to perish. Particularly not in misery and solitude.

The #MeToo movement can bring about real change for Indian women only if it is sustainable.

When Tanushree Dutta, a Bollywood actor, recently accused senior actor and politician Nana Patekar of sexually harassing her on a film set 10 years ago, it sparked a #MeToo conversation across India. In early October, Mahima Kukreja, 28, a comic and writer, discussed how she was sexually harassed by another comic, Uday Chakraborty.

Soon, other women came forward, and there was an outpouring of pain and anger as Indian women banded together on Twitter to share their stories of sexual abuse and harassment.

As happened in the U.S., India’s #MeToo accusations have been questioned by some. One point detractors make is that this movement is limited to urban, elite, educated women who are savvy and privileged enough to access the internet and social media. While that is largely true, it cannot and should not deflect attention from this powerful collective reckoning.

Having pounded his opponents into submission for years, President Donald Trump is struggling to land a blow against Special Counsel Robert Mueller. And while they danced for some time around the nature of their standoff, it is now abundantly clear where the lines are drawn. The president is identified as “Individual 1” in Mueller’s criminal complaint against his former lawyer Michael Cohen, while Trump has no compunction about directly attacking Mueller on Twitter.

Last week, their battle heated up again after a lull for the midterm elections and for Trump to complete a written questionnaire for Mueller. The “when will this investigation end?” speculation continues to be pointless — the end of the special counsel probe has been incorrectly forecast too many times to count — as each passing indictment and court filing seems to raise a new question even as it answers many others and confirms a few suspicions.
