Boston biotech hiring is "on steroids"

Hiring in the biotech industry right now is "a war of talent on steroids," especially in Boston where many pharmaceutical and biotech companies are based, according to Flexion Therapeutics CEO Michael Clayman. Companies have increased pay and benefits and offered higher titles to woo specialists in areas such as immunology, gene therapy and quality management.

Biden to announce vaccination policy for federal workers

President Joe Biden is expected to announce on Thursday that all federal workers and contractors must be vaccinated against the coronavirus or take part in regular testing, a source says. The move, following a statement by Justice Department lawyers that it's not against federal law for businesses to mandate vaccines, could encourage more companies to follow suit.

Google and Facebook say they'll require employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 when they come back to offices, with Google delaying most employee returns until Oct. 18. "We will have a process for those who cannot be vaccinated for medical or other reasons and will be evaluating our approach in other regions as the situation evolves," says Lori Goler, vice president of people for Facebook, which mandate vaccines at US offices.

Swimming helps kids expand their vocabulary

The methodology behind this study is pretty cool. Researchers taught new words to children ages 6-12 and then asked them to do one of three activities: swim, take part in CrossFit exercises or complete a coloring sheet. The kids who hit the pool were 13% more accurate in follow-up tests on the new words.
