Almost 8.6 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines are being administered globally every day, giving a new sigh of hope that the end to the pandemic is finally in sight. However, in the meantime, determining if an individual has received the vaccine or has tested negative for the virus will be essential to jump-starting high-risk industries that have been hit hardest by the shutdown, especially international travel.

Since the onset of the pandemic one year ago, digital health passes have emerged as a useful tool to verify an individual’s health credentials. Unlike paper credentials, digital passport health plans can be stored on mobile phones. These health passes enhance user privacy and “binds” an individual’s identity to a test result or vaccination certificate. These features also enable real-time fraud-resistant digital verification.
