Future of the web
It’s the start of March and, as you've seen a couple times in this newsletter this week, we’ll be delving into Web3. Some quick definitions to help you understand what we mean:
- Web3 is commonly understood to be the third iteration of the web, with a focus on decentralization via blockchain technologies and democratization of ownership. (But there's also plenty of debate about that.)
- Web 1.0 was the launch of the world wide web, and Web 2.0 was the user-generated web, aka the rise of social media.
Knowing the milestones now, when did you feel the jump from web 1.0 to 2.0? Was it when your grandpop had a Facebook account? Or when social media companies started to feel as big as Apple or Microsoft? How do you think we’ll know when Web3 has fully arrived? Reply to this email to let us know what you think.
