Last week, Reddit started blocking search engines and companies training AI from accessing the site unless they pay up. So far, Google is the only company to meet the asking price, and it looks to be a win-win for both sides.

Reddit is very popular with the public because it is a source of expertise and experience. It has posts from people who are very knowledgeable in an incredible array of topics, and ones from people who actually use many products and services. It is Word of Mouth central.

Being the sole source of Reddit search results is great for Google* and further raises the social media platform’s profile. It also makes Reddit even more attractive to marketers. Check out our guide to marketing on Reddit, which includes details about its new features for B2B brands.

(*With a judge currently deciding the federal antitrust case against Big G parent Alphabet, this  may not be the time to highlight another facet of the search engine’s dominance. But that’s the way the cookie crumbles, unless it’s a third-party one.)
