IAB Tech Lab Lays Out New Standards Despite Looming Questions From Google

The IAB Tech Lab today released four new specs that aim to give some clarity around ad targeting in our privacy-focused future.

Trouble is, since Google’s announcement—which didn’t come as much surprise to active members of the ongoing conversations around refitting the web—one of the IAB’s specs (around user-enabled identity tokens) is in jeopardy. Andrew Blustein has the latest.

Google is a member of the IAB Tech Lab. Even so, the group doesn’t always “get as much heads-up as we might ideally like,” CEO of the IAB Tech Lab Dennis Buchheim said.

If yesterday's Google-focused Adweek town hall was anything to go by, we know there are unanswered questions.

Thanks to those of you who attended. Nearly 3,000 registrants tuned in to hear from The Trade Desk's Dave Pickles, News Corp.'s Stephanie Layser, and Havas Media's Jamie Seltzer. You can watch the full town hall here.

Opinions were split: a live poll during the event showed respondents were roughly 50-50 on whether Privacy Sandbox will improve privacy for web users. That's why we want you to fill out this quick survey on some of the issues involved. We'll get back to you with what we learn.

And with that, please consider supporting our journalism with an Adweek+ Subscription and gain full access to all of Adweek's essential coverage and resources.

Thanks for reading and have a great week!
