Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, and several other Republicans have introduced the Protecting American Jobs Act, which would transfer jurisdiction over labor disputes from the National Labor Relations Board to the federal courts. The proposal would also remove most of the NLRB's rulemaking power.

Cloud computing provider Veeva Systems has filed a lawsuit against three companies, challenging their noncompete agreements that discourage employees from moving on to California companies. Veeva says the agreements stifle competition and keep employees from career advancement.

Employers' budgets for salary increases are expected to rise by 3% in 2018, about the same amount as 2017, according to a new survey. Other research shows that wages for US workers haven't kept pace with production increases, pointing to the use of technology and low-wage international labor as part of the reason.
