Ditch networking over cocktails for a shared activity

Instead of passively networking over cocktails, get people involved with activities such as making food, attending a group fitness class or doing volunteer work, suggests Jon Levy, founder of The Influencers Dinner. "Most people don't make friends through an interview process or a random networking mixer. Instead, we connect through common friends or shared activities," he writes.

Job openings rose 597,000 in March to 8.1 million, the highest figure since records began in 2000, according to the Labor Department. The apparent mismatch between the high number of job openings and the high level of unemployment might prompt the Biden administration to reappraise unemployment benefits, some of which pay more than available jobs.

At least nine Republican-controlled states are calling for an imminent end to the $300 weekly unemployment supplement authorized by the Biden administration, and have asked the Labor Department for exemption from some of its other assistance programs. Some GOP governors are instead promoting a "return to work" cash bonus for unemployed residents.

Now that the Biden administration has revived the International Entrepreneur Rule, startup founders taking advantage of it could create as many as 429,714 new jobs for Americans over the next decade, according to a report from the New American Economy, a bipartisan research and advocacy organization. The National Venture Capital Association and others had sued the Department of Homeland Security to get it reinstated.
