Gov. Spencer Cox signs 52 bills in the 2024 General Legislative Session

Gov. Spencer J. Cox signed an additional 52 bills today. He signed 555 pieces of legislation from the 2024 General Legislative Session. In addition to bills signed, Gov. Cox issued seven vetoes, issued two line-item vetoes and allowed two bills to go into effect without signature. (Read More)


Romney, colleagues introduce bipartisan bill to counter national security risks of economic entanglement with China

U.S. Senators Mitt Romney (R-UT), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), James Lankford (R-OK), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), John Cornyn (R-TX), and Todd Young (R-IN) today introduced the bipartisan American Economic Independence Act, legislation that would require the President to submit to Congress a comprehensive threat analysis of the national security risks posed by economic integration with China in key economic sectors such as financial services, artificial intelligence, critical minerals, and manufacturing. After delivering the threat analysis, the Executive Branch would be tasked with providing recommendations to Congress to mitigate the national security risks posed by China in each economic sector. Romney receives National Emergency Management Association’s Legislative Achievement Award

U.S. Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) today was presented with the National Emergency Management Association’s annual “Legislative Achievement Award” in recognition of his efforts in enacting the Wildland Fire Mitigation and Management Commission. The award, which recognizes members of Congress that have gone above and beyond to advance the priorities of emergency management and homeland security—was presented to Senator Romney by Kathy Holder, the State Hazard Mitigation Officer at Utah’s Department of Public Safety and a member of the Wildfire Commission. Better Utah releases 2024 Legislative progress report

Alliance for a Better Utah released its 2024 Progress Report today, grading lawmakers on 50 of the most important bills and resolutions from the recently completed legislative session. All 104 legislators received one overall grade, as well as grades in each of four categories: Strong Communities, Equal Rights, Good Government, and Sustainable Future. The highest overall grades this year were earned by Representative Brian King in the Utah House of Representatives and Senator Nate Blouin in the Utah Senate. The lowest overall grades in the House and Senate were earned by Representative Phil Lyman and Senator Dan McCay. (Read More)
