Governor and S.C. Chamber to launch task forces this week

As Gov. Henry McMaster makes plans to launch the Accelerate S.C. Task Force, possibly at a 4 p.m. press conference today, Ted Pitts, S.C. Chamber of Commerce CEO and president, said a separate chamber-led task force will incubate new initiatives to jump-start the state’s economy.

Of the 330 businesses polled in a Greenville-area survey released April 16, about 41% have laid off staff or cut hours, while 70% seek financial assistance such as the Paycheck Protection Program or Economic Injury Disaster Loans.

BASF donates $50,000 toward Seneca tornado relief

Chemical manufacturer BASF Corp. has gifted $50,000 to the city of Seneca Relief Fund following the touchdown of an EF-3 tornado in the city on April 13. The donation, housed at Oconee Federal Bank, will be used to support victims of damage left behind when at least one of several tornadoes across the Upstate touched down in Oconee County.
