Could Fake News Threaten the Census?
With any luck, revelations about the past few years of online misinformation campaigns using social media have made citizens more critical consumers of what they read online. That’s the hope of those acutely invested in the upcoming 2020 Census, the first decennial count of the U.S. population that is primarily digital. Experts and grass-roots groups entrenched within communities across the country are committed to drowning out inaccuracies meant to discourage participation with the truth about the importance of the Census, as reported in this story by GT Assistant News Editor Zack Quaintance.

CIO News
In the final days of 2019, a number of technology leaders in state and local government quietly moved on from their posts. To start, Minnesota is in the market for a new chief information security officer due to the departure of Aaron Call. Call spent two years as CISO, and has been replaced in an interim capacity by Rohit Tandon.

Two pieces of staffing news came out of Indiana in late December, with Chief Data Officer Darshan Shah leaving the post he held since early 2017. Interim Chief Data Officer Josh Martin will take over leadership of the state’s Management Performance Hub for now. The state has also decided who will helm the larger IT agency, also in an interim capacity. Robert Paglia, the Office of Technology’s chief administrative officer, will fill the role of chief information officer until a permanent replacement is named for CIO Dewand Neely. Neely stepped down in November following a 15-year career with the state.
