Granting clinical privileges to telemedicine practitioners

In a credentialing-by-proxy arrangement, does the originating site have to actually grant clinical privileges to the telemedicine practitioner, or is it sufficient that the hospital/telemedicine entity dispatching the practitioner (“distant site”) has granted him or her privileges?

Most staff are aware of their organization’s policies and the basic Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements for disclosing patient information to family members, friends, and other individuals such as legal guardians. It seems as though news breaks every day about the alleged sexual misconduct of yet another prominent figure in Hollywood or Washington D.C.
