Gray Wolves Need Your Help

Congressional attacks on the Endangered Species Act continue to mount. Last month, the House of Representatives passed HR 6874, a bill that would place gray wolves in peril by stripping their Endangered Species Act protections. Now House Republicans are trying to add text from that bill to a must-pass spending bill. The vote is expected before the end of the month.

Tell your members of Congress to remove this attack on wolves from the congressional spending bill.

Tell Congress Not to Fund Trump’s Border Wall

President Trump is demanding $5 billion from Congress to continue funding his unpopular, wasteful, xenophobic, environmentally destructive border wall with U.S. taxpayer dollars. The president says he is “totally willing” to shut down the federal government if he doesn’t get what he wants. The deadline for Congress to approve all appropriations bills is December 7—this Friday!

Speak out now against Trump’s continued effort to use taxpayer dollars to fund his border boondoggle.

100 Years of Avian Imagery

In 1918, Congress passed the Migratory Bird Treaty, one of the nation’s first environmental protection laws. Now, a century later, the National Geographic Society has published The Splendor of Birds, a collection of over 500 images showcasing 100 years of avian photography.

The Dude Confides

Sierra magazine spoke with Jeff Bridges about Living in the Future's Past, a new documentary on climate change that he produced with acclaimed director and cinematographer Susan Kucera. Bridges continually returns to the notion of humanity as a growing, interdependent “superorganism” charged with collectively confronting the juggernaut that is climate change.

Whaddya Mean There Are No Joshua Trees in Joshua Tree?

A new study has found that our national parks are warming at twice the national average, and rainfall in the collective area of the national park system has decreased far more sharply than across the rest of the U.S. One consequence is that national parks such as Glacier, Joshua Tree, and Sequoia may lose the namesake treasures they were set aside to protect.

Why are our national parks more vulnerable than other lands?

Immigration Abomination

The Trump administration wants to limit immigration from people who legally accept government help to feed, shelter, and care for their families. One in four U.S. children has an immigrant parent. Yet some parents who accept government help for their kids could soon be risking their own status in this country. Imagine being in a position where protecting your child’s health means facing deportation.

Send in your comment opposing this inhumane, punitive policy by the December 10 deadline.

Trump Tries, Fails to Bury New Climate Report

As families and friends coast to coast enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday, the Trump administration released the fourth National Climate Assessment... on “Black Friday,” the busiest shopping day of the year. The transparent attempt to dodge media scrutiny of the report was a flop. Its release was front-page news, and the message from federal scientists was unmistakable.

Here's what you need to know.

Wild in the City

Sam Hobson, a wildlife photographer in the U.K., specializes in documenting animals that make their home in cities. “The world would be a much more depressing place without the potential of having a chance encounter with the wild," he says "even if it’s just during a walk in the park."

The New Conscience of Wall Street?

That’s how Barron’s characterized Larry Fink, CEO of BlackRock, the world’s biggest investor in fossil fuel companies—and thus in climate destruction. Fink says he wants to be a climate leader and has been outspoken about the need for greater corporate social responsibility. Right now, that's mostly talk—but if enough of us raise our voices, Fink will have to square his actions with his words.

Urge Fink to walk the walk.

Lady Liberty Weeps

Last week, the U.S. Border Patrol launched tear gas canisters at Central American migrants caravan as they tried to cross the border. "Watching the heart-wrenching images of children in diapers being gassed, it’s hard to hold back the tears," says Sierra Club Associate Communications Director Javier Sierra.
