☀️ It's looking like another week of warm temperatures across Minnesota. 80-degree temperatures will be felt all the way to the international border.

🌧️ Northern Minnesota will see some spotty to scattered showers and thunderstorms Monday night into Tuesday. Expect multiple chances for showers throughout the week.

Duluth child care center closures exacerbate growing crunch facing families
The impending closure of two large child care centers — and possibly a third — is exacerbating a child care crunch in Duluth which is already short more than 1,000 slots. But what’s happening in Duluth is not unique. The Center for Rural Policy and Development estimates a shortage of more than 40,000 child care spots outside of the Twin Cities metro area.
 
In Minneapolis, caregivers connect kids and seniors — and everyone benefits

Music, yoga and science classes are built into the weekly routine for infants and preschoolers at The Pillars Child Care in Prospect Park. The child care center sits on the ground floor of The Pillars Senior Living Center. Older residents — the grandfriends — come to volunteer, working with the kids and caregivers. 

🚨 Hit-and-run vehicle plows into downtown Minneapolis crowd, kills 16-year-old girl and injures others. A 16-year-old girl died and five others were injured shortly after midnight Saturday. Police arrested a 22-year-old woman. A fight between teenagers and young adults precipitated the incident.

👮🏼 Trump was the subject of an apparent assassination attempt at his Florida golf club, the FBI says. The U.S. Secret Service opened fire at a man pointing an AK-style rifle into the club as Trump was on the course. The man was later taken into custody in a neighboring county.

🚓 SWAT team shoots, wounds suspect during standoff in Yellow Medicine County. Officials said during the standoff, the person fired a long gun at the team and the SWAT team returned fire, striking the person in the leg. Officials have said the suspect is in stable condition.

📜 Minneapolis street named after community leader Bernadette Anderson. She was a community leader, an outspoken advocate for African American civil rights in Minnesota and a tough-love mother to many northside youth. She was honored Friday afternoon with a renamed street in north Minneapolis.

🏆 Emmys 2024: 'The Bear,' 'Baby Reindeer,' 'Shōgun' win big. Eugene and Dan Levy hosted the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards Sunday night on ABC. Here are nominees and winners in some of the main categories.

🏀 WNBA playoff seeds mostly still undecided as league enters final week of season. The WNBA regular season comes down to the final four days this week with all 12 teams playing Thursday to close it out. The postseason begins Sunday.

🏈 The undefeated Minnesota Vikings win 23-17 over the San Francisco 49ers. Vikings QB Sam Darnold passed for 268 yards and two touchdowns against his former team. San Francisco lost for the eighth straight time in Minnesota, including for the second straight year. The most recent win here was in 1992.
🎧 Cube Critics discuss ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.’ MPR News Cube Critics Jacob Aloi and Alex V. Cipolle both review the sequel to the beloved 1988 film by Tim Burton about a troublesome trickster ghost. “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” brings back several stars, including Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara and Michael Keaton.

🎧 What to watch for with political ads on the way.  MPR News' politics team discusses campaign ads with associate professor Dan Myers of the University of Minnesota’s Department of Political Science. Hundreds of millions of dollars will be spent nationally between now and Election Day.

🎧 Methane is rising as a potent greenhouse gas.  Sahrah Kaplan, climate and science reporter for the Washington Post, says the powerful greenhouse gas is “the fastest way to heat the planet and we’re doing that at an ever accelerating rate.” Kaplan joined Climate Cast to explain how agriculture — as well as human influence — are contributing to the rise in this potent greenhouse gas.
