Greenville Chamber CEO to serve on national committee

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has selected Carlos Phillips, president and CEO of the Greenville Chamber, to serve on its National Initiative on Inequality of Opportunity initiative. The steering committee will discuss equality in education, employment and criminal justice reform for minorities.

Unemployment claims in S.C. reach 559,531

For the week ending May 30, nearly 19,000 South Carolinians, including more than 1,600 in Richland County, filed initial unemployment claims. Close to 1,900 Greenville County residents filed, while Spartanburg County saw 1,385 claims.

Broad River Electric Cooperative rounds up for nonprofits

Cherokee County’s Broad River Electric Cooperative donated $17,400 from its Operation Round Up fund to nine regional organizations, according to a new release from recipient Upstate Warrior Solution. Broad River Electric Cooperative’s Operation Round Up fund rounds up participants’ monthly balances and sends the difference to nonprofits in Cherokee, Union and Spartanburg counties every quarter.
