The Style Invitational

Dear Loser, Aspiring Loser or General Hanger-On:

Even if you're not an ace at the wordplay of most Style Invitational contests, you might find yourself playing around with this one during the holiday weekend:

Did you know that every 3-by-3-foot spot on the entire earth has been assigned a unique three-word code? Get the free What3Words app or go to what3words.com and browse around for the most interesting combinations among the 57 trillion of these addresses on Earth. For example, I'm sending this to you from The Washington Post's downtown headquarters, also known as (in one spot, anyway) as "dart.edge.orbit."

This week: Can you find a humorously appropriate (or inappropriate) address for a particular place?

And another choice: Look up a three-word code and tell us what ought to be there: for instance, "empress.banished.forever" is in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

‬ AND THAT'S NOT ALL! We have the winning collective nouns: like "a BULLPEN of speechwriters," "a DULTERY of Ashley Madison subscribers," and "a WHATEVER of teenagers." Plus 49 more.

And if you're thinking of entering the What3Words contest, be sure to read some more tips in my online column, The Style Conversational.
