"I love nature, I love landscape, because it is so sincere. It never cheats me. It never jests. It is cheerfully, musically earnest." -- Henry David Thoreau, November 16, 1850
Thoreau's appreciation of the natural world informs my work as a pastel painter. My goal is to use light, shape, and color to represent the emotional atmosphere that a place inspires. Whether painting on location or in my home studio, I hope to capture the earnest truth of a given moment. Perhaps doing so will remind us to linger and wonder what mysteries may lie around seemingly ordinary corners.
