Utah Gov. Spencer Cox announces Robert Carroll as director of communications 

Gov. Spencer Cox announced the appointment of Robert Carroll to serve as a senior advisor and his director of communications. Carroll joins the Cox administration as a tech industry veteran and a seasoned communicator who has dedicated his career to forging public-private partnerships. Most recently, Carroll served as the chief of staff for 47G, Utah’s aerospace and defense industry group. (Read More)

USBE announces policies on free and reduced-price meals and free milk

Utah State Board of Education (USBE) today announced their policy for free and reduced-price meals and free milk for children unable to pay the full price of meals/milk served under the National School Lunch, School Breakfast, After School Snack, and/or Special Milk programs. If the Local Education Authority (LEA) participates in the program, they will have a copy of the policy, which may be reviewed by any interested party. Utah schools participating in the National School Breakfast, Lunch, and/or Special Milk Programs will be distributing program information and accepting free and reduced-price applications after July 1^st for the 2024-2025 school year. • 1818 - Lucy Good Brooks is born. Following the Civil War, the former slave founded the Friends’ Asylum for Colored Orphans. The orphanage served African American children in the Richmond, VA area for nearly 60 years.
• 1940 -  The Lascaux cave paintings, estimated to be 17,000 years old, were discovered in southwestern France.
• 1948 - Margaret Chase Smith is elected to the Senate. Formerly a U.S. Representative in the House, Smith’s election to the Senate made her the first woman elected to both chambers of Congress and also the first Republican woman elected to the Senate.
