In the Studio
| It’s onward and upward here at the Carlos Watson Show as we forge ahead with interviewing the best and brightest in the world of politics, business, entertainment and health. In the studio last week, a recurring topic was finding inner confidence and self-affirmation. Once again, Carlos is chatting with a group of trailblazers with a common theme that self-growth is a journey. Check them out here: |
| Anna Malaika Tubbs | The Visionary Anna Malaika Tubbs is a rising star in the world of telling important stories in our history as Americans. Anna sits down with Carlos and discusses the inspiration behind her new book, The Three Mothers, which is taking the literary world by storm. In it she explains how legendary Civil Rights leaders Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Jr., and James Baldwin became who they were because of their mothers. Tubbs described being infuriated at the lack of storytelling about women and mothers and, in particular, Black women, noting there has been a deliberate erasing of these stories from American history. It’s a fascinating interview, and you won’t want to miss it! |
| Matt Damon | The Boston Boy Oscar-winning screenwriter, producer and A-list actor Matt Damon checked in with Carlos to talk about everything from love to friendship to forgiveness. He describes his bevy of thoughtful, groundbreaking films, from the success of Good Will Hunting in 1997 to living up to spy-with-a-conscience Jason Bourne in the five blockbuster Bourne movies. Damon even touches on how parenting has made him humble, and how he has learned to look at life lessons through the lens of his children. |
| Tahj Mowry | The Optimist Tahj Mowry isn’t just the little brother anymore. From his success on the popular sitcom Smart Guy in 1997, Mowry has made a name for himself, despite being the younger sibling to his famous identical twin sisters, Tamera and Tia. Tahj chats candidly with Carlos about his unique childhood, his love of football, and how family and particularly his grandmother inspire him. He discusses his upcoming projects and how the COVID-19 pandemic has taught him to refocus on learning and growing. He also touches on his love for the late actress Naya Rivera and their special bond growing up together. |
| Anna Paquin | Sookie Says As New Zealand-born actress Anna Paquin says with a chuckle, “Frankly, I’m delightfully boring,” when it comes to being the polar opposite of many of the characters she’s played over the years. From her Oscar-winning performance at age 11 in The Piano to her seven roaring seasons on the hit series True Blood, Anna shares her thoughts with Carlos on her extraordinary 30-year career. And counting! As she puts it, she intends to keep telling stories and intentionally seeking enlightenment in her life. |
| Adrian Holmes | The Uncle Adrian Holmes has been in the business for years. The Canadian actor has had more than 100 film and TV roles to his name, but as he tells Carlos, he’s always been content with his previous roles knowing innately that something bigger was on its way. And that something bigger? Landing the coveted role of iconic figure Uncle Phil in Bel-Air, the reboot of the wildly successful 90’s sitcom, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Ironically, Holmes’ career took off during the pandemic, and it turned out to be the perfect chance for him to find clarity in himself. He looks at Bel-Air as an important messenger for social change as well as a positive narrative for African Americans. “It shows the full spectrum of the Black community in a beautiful way.” |
