New law opens way for student-athletes to get paid

California's new Fair Pay to Play law, signed Monday, will make it illegal for colleges to discipline student-athletes who receive compensation for the use of their likeness or for endorsements. The law has received support from many professional athletes and lawmakers, but the NCAA calls it unconstitutional and has threatened to ban California teams from competition when the law goes into effect January 2023.
