Man quits job to become full-time Pokémon hunter A New Zealand man has done what we've all been fantasizing about since Pokémon Go dropped this summer: he quit his job to roam the countryside on a quest to catch ‘em all. Tom Currie, 24, decided enough was enough. “The man” will not suppress a Trainer’s desire to seek the rarest (and dare we say legendary?) of Pokémon. Armed with a backpack of supplies and smartphone full of Pokéballs, Currie has already captured 90 of the 151 Pokémon in the game. “I wanted to have an adventure,” Currie said. “I have been working for six years, and I was desperate for a break. And Pokémon gave me the chance to live that dream.” Currie has been encouraged by friends, transport companies offering to get him to remote parts of the country, and even his supportive (yet naive) mother, who says, “His nana and I don’t understand the game, but I remember him loving it in his childhood.” Sure, it’s an unconventional move. But sometimes if you wanna be the very best, like no one ever was, you gotta follow your heart and “understand the power that’s inside.” Pokémon! |
