Hair Relaxers – Read the Label
Chicago, IL Black women who have used hair relaxers for most of their lives have been “shocked” and “horrified” to discover that studies have linked formaldehyde—the chemical found in most hair relaxers—to cancer and fibroids. A recent Boston University report highlights an increased risk for Black women to develop uterine cancer after receiving a particular hair treatment, but studies suggesting that hair products containing a variety of chemicals are linked to asthma, hormone disruptions and even cancer go back to 2018.

Problems with Philips CPAP Replacement Machines
Pittsburgh, PA Nearly two years after Philips Respironics recalled millions of CPAP machines, including ventilators for the sick and dying and DreamStation for sleep apnea patients--including children, consumers are still having problems. A recent investigation has found that the new replacement breathing machines might also be emitting dangerous chemicals. Meanwhile, people who have bought, leased or rented certain Philips sleep apnea machines can now file a claim for restitution--but that may be premature.

Activision Blizzard Agrees to $54 million Gender Discrimination Settlement
Los Angeles, CA Activision Blizzard has agreed to pay over $50 million to settle a gender discrimination lawsuit brought by California's civil rights agency. Female employees of the video game maker claimed they were constantly faced with sexual harassment, and the company employed few women in leadership roles. If they were in leadership roles, they earned less salary, incentive pay and total compensation than their male peers.

California Labor Commissioner’s Office reaches $5.5M Settlement for Wage Theft Lawsuit
Los Angeles, CA Thanks to the California Labor Commissioner’s Office (LCO), 148 caregivers who worked at Adat Shalom Board and Care Inc. will finally be compensated for California Labor wage theft allegations. A $5.5 million settlement has been reached after a lengthy investigation into wage theft found that Adat Shalom’s six adult residential care facilities in the west San Fernando Valley paid its caregivers less than minimum wage. Some live-in caregivers were actually paid less than $3 per hour.
