Vermont photographer Wilson Alwyn Bentley (1865–1931), known as “Snowflake” Bentley, spent a lifetime photographing snowflakes, eventually collecting thousands of images published at the end of his life in a book called Snow Crystals. In this lecture, Alexander Nemerov, chair of the Department of Art and Art History at Stanford University, will consider the relation of Wilson’s photographs to the war that ended the year he was born.

More information can be found on our website.

This lecture is presented in conjunction with Winslow Homer: Eyewitness, on view at the Harvard Art Museums from August 31, 2019 through January 5, 2020.

October 16
4-5:15pm

Free admission. The program will take place at Adolphus Busch Hall, in the Lower Level Conference Room. Please enter via the entrance on Cabot Way. For additional information and directions, visit the Center for European Studies (CES) website.

Looking for a different way to engage with the museums? Attend a Gallery Talk! These short, lunch-time tours highlight new works in the collections, take a fresh look at old favorites, investigate artists' materials and techniques, and reveal the latest research by our curators, conservationists, fellows, and technologists. But don't take our word for it - check out the latest Index article by summer intern Allyson Tompkins. Gallery Talks are generally scheduled Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 12:30 - 1pm.
