| On the edge of your seat | | Raw and philosophical, ‘A Hidden Life’ poses unique questions about courage and human nature | A historical drama based on actual events, ‘A Hidden Life’ recounts the story of an unsung hero – Franz Jägerstätter (August Diehl). Jägerstätter, an Austrian conscientious objector during WWII, is faced with the threat of execution for treason due to his refusal to swear an oath to Hitler and serve in the Wehrmacht.
The critically acclaimed film, has been named as one of the top 10 independent films of the year (2019) by the National Board of Review. In fact, when our Film editor reviewed the movie, he called it ‘Terrence Malick’s best film in years’. And considering that the writer-director is known as a bit of a visionary, that’s some high-praise indeed.
