Happening [margins.] planning committee member Katerina Jeng “It’s up to writers to propose ideas that inspire long-term, positive change.” —Fireside Fiction Too often, writers of color are left out of the spaces where the publishing industry anoints its leaders and luminaries. Two new projects take aim at that culture of exclusion, creating space for writers and work that have been overlooked by the mainstream, that amplify underrepresented voices, and that center marginalized people and their experiences. [margins.] : the conference will be an inclusive event where writers from underrepresented communities can come together to share stories, learn from, and support one another. And the bilingual, illustrated anthology Puestes pa’l Futuro will present visions of a postcolonial Puerto Rico, written by authors from the island as well as the diaspora.
