Happening Illustration by Lenora Jane for Jupiter Disco: Preservation Brooklyn’s Jupiter Disco was one of the many New York City bars forced to close its doors in March 2020, with no clear sign as to when it'll be able to reopen. But the team behind the acclaimed venue, known for its creative cocktails and sci-fi–inspired decor, is keeping busy in quarantine.
Jupiter Disco: Preservation will be a zine of cocktail recipes, profiles of artists and musicians, and “ideas about preserving culture and our own sanity” at this unprecedented time. You can back the project for a PDF or print copy of the zine, plus limited-edition cassette mixtapes, T-shirts, or art prints.
“We wanted to use this time to reflect, communicate, share, and work through this experience in text,” wrote Jupiter Disco founders Maks Pazuniak and Al Sotack. “While we hope to reopen in the future, for now our prime directive is preservation.”
Jupiter Disco is among more than a dozen bars, restaurants, independent publishers, and cultural spaces taking part in Kickstarter’s Lights On initiative, using the platform to raise funds and stay connected with their communities through the pandemic.
