This card game teaches practical skills for coping with stress, conflict, and negative emotions.
Happening The Game of Real Life When Jesse Finkelstein and his sister Meredith Noelle began developing The Game of Real Life, they didn’t know just how valuable it would become. Based on a form of therapy called dialectical behavioral therapy, or DBT, the game teaches practical skills for dealing with stress, negative emotions, and relationship conflicts—things many of us have been experiencing in spades since the COVID-19 pandemic began. “I personally use DBT skills throughout my day and my life, because they're grounded in mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, and recognizing pain without adding unneeded suffering,” Jesse recently told us. Jesse and Meredith launched the project on Kickstarter in March 2020, and reached their $3,000 funding goal in just a couple days. In the spirit of offering helpful resources to as many people as possible, they also released a free, downloadable version of the game on their campaign page. They’ve since raised more than $90,000 from over 2,000 backers, and now, with their community’s support, they plan to turn the game into an app as well. Support the project to help make it happen. |
