Happy Fourth of July! Independence Day has always been one of my favorite holidays—not just because of the cookouts, fireworks, and time with family, but also because of the chance to reflect upon the country we call home. We have endured a lot as a nation, but together we have continued to make progress out of pain and triumph out of tribulation. America is now a place where opportunity abounds for all people—even someone like me, who grew up in a single-parent household mired in poverty. If we work together and stand united around our common ideals—life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness—I know our brightest days are still to come. Click to watch my Fourth of July message. Standing with Israel On Thursday, I joined a group of Republican senators in requesting another hearing for Dilawar Syed, President Biden’s nominee for a top Small Business Administration position. Syed serves on the board of an organization that has recently released several inflammatory, anti-Israel statements. It’s crucial that those serving in our highest levels of government support our nation’s greatest allies and friends, including Israel. A Win for the Lowcountry In April, Senator Graham and I wrote to Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, encouraging the Department of Transportation to invest in the Lowcountry’s infrastructure. This week, we were happy to announce that the SC Department of Commerce Division of Public Railways will receive a $25 million grant to further manufacturing and trade from Berkeley County. Have a great holiday! Sincerely, |
