MEET GEMMA

Gemma is a Grade 12 student and passionate feminist from Vancouver, BC. She decided to do her senior research project on period poverty, and what it means to women and trans men around the world. She developed a plan to make a difference locally, and with the help of London Drugs, she created menstrual hygiene kits and delivered them to women’s shelters in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. But she realized that raising awareness was another important part of the solution, so she spoke to her classmates, put up posters, and collected donations and started conversations to help break down stereotypes and stigmas around menstruation.

WOMEN OF LONDON DRUGS
Ana Costa

Ana Costa – Store Manager, Granville & Georgia
I started my journey with London Drugs at the age of 17 not ever thinking that 30 plus years I would be with London Drugs. As a very young women at the time a career in management hadn’t crossed my mind until a store manager - Shelley took me aside and let me know she believed in me and the potential I had. From then on the opportunities and support I received was endless for me. I have now been a store manager for over 20 years. I’m fortunate to be in a role that I can help others achieve their goals. The best part of my job is the ability to guide and mentor future employees both at the entry level and senior levels with their own journeys with London Drugs.

Chelsea Kwong

Chelsea Kwong – Pharmacist, Lethbridge
I have been practicing as a pharmacist at London Drugs for the past 10 years, and during that time I have always been supported in the many endeavors I have chased. One of those endeavors was becoming a Certified Menopause Practitioner. Being in health care I was acutely aware of the lack of information that women are given about menopause, and increasing my knowledge of women’s health issues has enabled me to better serve our patients. Throughout my career I have had many heart felt conversations with women who otherwise might not have had their concerns heard. There remains gender inequality in healthcare, and at London Drugs pharmacy we are working on elevating the importance of women’s health so we can we can enable better care for women. I am grateful for the support London Drugs has given me to purse this passion and to directly impact the lives of women in my community.

Lillian Fast

Lillian Fast – Store Manager, Langley
I have been with London Drugs for over 30 years, starting in the photo department and moving my way through the company into management. I’m currently the store manager in Langley BC as well I’m a Zone manager, overseeing 2 other stores in my district. Along the way I have had the pleasure of meeting so many wonderful people who have been true mentors in my career with the company. One of my fondest memories was when I was working with Susan, my store Manager (I was her assistant) and we had the opportunity to attend a forum with Chris Hadfield – when we left the forum our conversation was truly motivating and helped shape my career moving forward. Susan has been one of my biggest supporters and mentors, but I’ve been extremely lucky with the support I receive from all my peers, and I do my best each day to pay it forward and mentor and inspire those around me. Celebrating women each day and seeing their hard work and dedication pay off either with school, family or being promoted at London Drugs are all things that inspire me.
