Happy Mardi Gras, the big day is here!

By Chad Calder

FAT TUESDAY: Mardi Gras is here, and we've got you covered with everything you need for the big day if you can't be out there yourself. Our parade cam will catch Zulu and Rex from downtown. You can meet King and Queen Zulu here, and don't forget Metairie, where King and Queen Argus reign.

But let's not forget Lundi Gras, which saw Proteus and Orpheus roll, not to mention the endearing oddball traditions that have sprung up in the Marigny.

AMID REVELRY, A TRAGEDY: Monday brought heartbreaking news from an already terrible incident that occurred just three blocks away from the Endymion parade Saturday night. The third victim of that triple homicide was identified as Heaven Nettles, a 15-year-old Houston girl here taking in Carnival parades with her late mother's family. Ramon Vargas spoke with her father Monday.

SUPPORTING UKRAINE: As the world watches in horror at Russia's invasion of Ukraine, many natives of the Eastern European nation and those with friends and family are in a particularly gut-wrenching position. While the city partied around them, a small group gathered in Metairie to protest Russian President Vladimir Putin and show solidarity for Ukraine.

Thanks for joining us this morning. Happy Mardi Gras.

As New Orleans preps for Mardi Gras, Ukrainian-Americans gather against Russian war
