Kids@CAM "I Have a Dream" Peace Flag Project In-Person: Saturday, January 15 & Sunday, January 16, 10 AM-1 PM At-Home: Monday, December 13 through Friday, January 14 CAM Members: $5 per bag Non-Members: $10 per bag
Cameron Art Museum honors the life and work of civil rights activist Martin Luther King with the "I Have a Dream" Peace Flag Project. We invite the community to take inspiration from King’s iconic speech from 1963 and think deeply about our own hopes and dreams for ourselves, our city, our nation, and the world. These dreams will be written on squares of cloth, emblematic of the peace prayer flags created for centuries in Tibet. Your peace flag will be included in a community installation that will be displayed around the CAM pond. Together, these flags represent our collective desire for racial unity, community healing, and peace.
Your Flag Bag Includes: 1 Reusable CAM Tote Bag 2 Dream Flags (one for Dream Flag Community Installation, one for your to keep!) 1 Black Permanent Marker 5 Colorful Permanent Maker 2 Fabric Crayons 1 List of Writing and Idea Prompts 1 Free Pass to CAM
If you’d like to be a part of our community installation from your own home, you can purchase a Dream Flag Bag and drop off your completed Dream Flag and it will added to the Dream Flag Community Installation.
You can also register to take part in our In-Person Flag Making event: Saturday, January 15th or Sunday, January 16th from 10 AM to 1 PM. Sign up for the amount of kits you will need and what day you want to join us. Once you’ve chosen your day, you are welcome to join us anytime between 10am and 1pm to work on your flags.
If you are purchasing more than 5 Dreams Flag bags, please email education@cameronartmuseum.org or call (910) 726-9486 to make pick up arrangements – your order may require extra time to prepare.

In-Person Event Floating Lantern Ceremony Sunday, January 9, 2022, 4-7 PM Lanterns Sleeves: $12 ($15 on January 9) at CAM Museum Shop
We all have individual reasons to create our own Floating Lantern . . . to honor someone who is a dear friend, to memorialize a cherished family member or treasure a special moment experienced during the year. CAM’s Floating Lantern Ceremony returns to an in-person event this year. Visit CAM on January 9 and join others at CAM’s Reflection Pond in an expression of Remembrance, Reflection and Gratitude. CAM admission applies to all indoor exhibitions (January 9 is last day for Illumination) but there is no charge to attend the Floating Lantern Ceremony. Live music near the pond and hot chocolate, beverages and light food service available from CAM Café.
Lantern Sleeves sales start today! Gathering with friends or family over Thanksgiving? It’s a great time to decorate your lantern sleeve and be ready for the Floating Lantern Ceremony on January 9, 2022. Lantern sleeves are on sale now at CAM Museum Shop for $12 ($15 on January 9).
