Announcing Summer WashU Climate Corps

WashU launched the WashU Climate Corps in September 2024. The effort is part of the Campus Climate Action Corps (CCAC), an Americorps program dedicated to combining campus- and community-based climate action.
Building on the positive outcomes and success from the first semester, the program will extend beyond the 2024-25 school year. It is accepting applicants for a summer cohort that will continue to drive the three focus areas: energy conservation and carbon reduction, urban trees and ecology, and circularity and solid waste pollution prevention.
The positions are full-time through the summer. There may be an opportunity based on performance to continue part-time during the academic year (for WashU students) or full-time for those seeking a full-time role.
All interested parties are encouraged to learn more about the program and apply.

Arboretum Sticker Design Contest The WashU Arboretum welcomes design submissions from WashU students for the 2025 Arboretum token, featuring this year's Tree of the Year, Bur Oak. The winner will receive a $200 prize. Submit your design.

SPARK Program, 8/15-8/23 At the annual SPARK Sustainability Leadership Training Program, students learn, network, and serve the community. Programming takes place on and off campus, with an overnight experience at Shaw Nature Reserve. Apply to participate.

WashU Shopper Shuttle Pilot WashU Parking & Transportation is piloting a new shuttle route called the Shopper Shuttle. This shuttle will run from Danforth Campus to the Galleria Mall, Brentwood Promenade, and Walmart. Check out the proposed route.

Pawpaw Patrol Pawpaws are popular fruits to forage in the Midwest. New research led by Anna Wassel, graduate student in biology, shows how pawpaws create a competitive environment for other plants. Learn more about pawpaw.

Green Cup 2025 Feb. 7-27, South 40 + Village Calling all residents of the South 40 and Village! It's almost time to prove that your residential college deserves to bring home the coveted Green Cup. Gain points for your college through various activities. L earn how you can compete.

Winter Tree Identification Friday, Jan. 31, 3 - 4:30 p.m., DUC 248 Join the WashU Arboretum for a hands-on lesson about identifying winter trees with Tyson research scientist Erin O'Connell. The presentation will be followed by outdoor practice. Build your tree identification skills.

Circularity Center Open Hours Friday, Jan. 24, 2-5 p.m., Circularity Center The Circularity Center will resume weekly open warehouse hours beginning Friday, January 24. Stop by the Circularity Center on North Campus to find winter clothes, textbooks, furniture, office supplies, and more.

Gephardt Institute Civic Action Week Feb. 17-23, various times and locations Civic Action Week offers students a creative and engaging suite of opportunities to understand their civic journey, learn more about critical issues, and build connections. Proposals for events are due January 17. S ubmit a proposal.

International Freezer Challenge Wednesday, Jan. 1 - Tuesday, July 1 WashU labs have the opportunity to participate in the annual International Freezer Challenge! Researchers will have six months to earn points for WashU and compete against labs internationally. F ind out how to green your lab.

Shaw Series Jan. 22-23, Beyond Housing Headquarters The Missouri Botanical Garden is hosting the annual Shaw Series, which is a two-day winter workshop. This year's workshop is "Greener Stormwater Solutions: 2025 Shaw Series Winter Symposium." R egister today.

OneSTL Sustainability Lab Tuesday, Jan. 28, 3:45 p.m. - 5 p.m., T-REX This event will feature aspects of St. Louis County's Comprehensive Plan related to sustainability. Comprehensive plans offer an opportunity to plan for community needs and give input on the future. F ind out how to join.

Christmas Tree Recycling Through Friday, Jan. 31, St. Louis City The City of St. Louis has extended its Christmas tree recycling program through Friday, January 31. For those outside of the city, you can still drop off your live tree for a small fee at St. Louis Composting. Check out drop-off locations.

Center for the Environment Summer The Center's undergraduate summer research program aims to create an accessible environmental research program for undergrads, regardless of experience. Apply by February 15.

Gephardt Civic Scholars The Civic Scholars Program is a rigorous two-year curriculum open to first-year students and sophomores. Selection is via a competitive, merit-based process. Apply by February 2.

Gephardt Open Position The Gephardt Institute for Civic and Community Engagement is seeking qualified candidates for a manager of strategic initiatives. This role leads strategic projects for Gephardt. L earn how to apply.

MoBot Summer Research The Missouri Botanical Garden's Research Experience for Undergraduates provides research training for 10 students during 10 weeks of the summer. Apply by February 28.

Young Friends of earthday365 The Young Friends of earthday365 is made up of emerging professionals dedicated to supporting the organization and planet. The group is looking to fill board positions. Apply by February 21.

Audubon Summer Positions The Audubon Center at Riverlands is accepting applications for two paid summer internships as bird survey technicians. They are seeking a regular technician and a lead technician.

MO Native Plant Society Grant The Missouri Native Plant Society announces funding for research projects conducted by college and university students under the supervision of a faculty member. Apply by January 31.

Wild Bird Rehab Internship Wild Bird Rehabilitation is providing qualified applicants the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working with wildlife in their Avian Nurseries, April to September. L earn how to apply.
