Dear John,
Thankfully, northern California’s most-recent fires spared Harbin and Middletown. So many in our wider community, though, lost lives, homes, and property. And for many of us here, even though we were spared physically, the emotional toll of smelling smoke, seeing flames, gathering papers and possessions, being on alert to evacuate... in the words of one longtime Harbin resident, “It triggered a lot of unresolved PTSD.” If you are someone who was directly impacted by these most-recent disasters, please know that our tender hearts are with you. And like you, we look forward to the moment when Harbin reopens, and we will again be able to be here for you. Now more than ever, the world needs what Harbin offers... and we continue working hard to bring Harbin back. In this newsletter: a first look at the designs to replace Domes 1&2; the update on our reforestation fund-raising; meet MD Elaine Watt; and new photos of our latest progress. |

Tree Campaign Update
We are delighted that, since our reforestation campaign began in July, Harbin friends and guests like yourself have donated almost $85,000 to support this ecologically vital work. Our intention for the coming planting season is to focus our efforts on the new trails we’ve cut in the hills above and around Harbin’s mainside area. We anticipate clearing significant dead timber, and planting the new saplings that will ensure the stability of the slopes, and the future beauty of our new hiking trails and hillsides. We invite you to consider a tax-deductible contribution now in support of this current phase of the program. |

Meet The Managers
We complete our introduction to Harbin’s circle of Managing Directors (the people masterminding and supervising every aspect of Harbin’s rebuild and reopening) with a profile of Elaine Watt. Seventeen years ago, Elaine stepped away from a nearly completed Ph.D. and pending professorship in economic statistics, and chose instead a life of community, self-expression, and love. It has been a harrowing month for many people. But Harbin’s managers and employees are back at work, bringing the rebuild of Harbin Hot Springs ever closer to its first phase of readiness. We invite you to click here to see our most recent photographs, and enjoy new perspectives on Harbin’s Watsu pool, the frog-bridge over the creek, our elevator, copper roofs, stained glass, and more. And until our next newsletter, we wish you ease and love. |
