Harmony Installed

at CAM

Harmony by local artist Hiroshi Sueyoshi was installed on CAM's campus last week. This 17-foot poly-chromed steel structure was made by Sueyoshi in 2000 as part of the Forum Sculpture Competition and was unveiled to the public October 26, 2000.

Hiroshi Sueyoshi was born in Ishikawa, Japan, in 1946. In 1971, he came to Asheboro, NC, to help design and build Humble Mill Pottery. In 1978, he moved to Wilmington, where he taught at Cape Fear Community College for more than 20 years. During this time he also sold and exhibited his work nationally and internationally. From 2006-2015, he was the artist-in-residence at Cameron Art Museum, where he led ceramics workshops, classes, and demonstrations and was a beloved member of CAM's staff.

Join CAM for a Zoom conversation with artist Willie Cole. In 2014, Cole's exhibition School Pride at CAM took the story of desegregation in NC and translated it into an emotionally charged multi-gallery installation that referenced personal experiences and historical events.

Join Deputy Director Heather Wilson as she interviews Lien Truong via Zoom about her work The Peril of Angel's Breath, which will be in CAM's upcoming exhibition She Persists. Lien Truong's practice examines social, cultural, and political history, exploring the influences that form belief systems and notions of heritage. Registration information to come.

Did you see the great article in the Star News about the USCT Public Sculpture Project? Check it out here. The installation may be delayed until November 2021, but we're hard at work researching the identities of the men who fought at Fork Road. Be a part of history and support this project.
