Perhaps the worst is over

Good Morning Voornaam,

Interested in investing in solar? And I don't mean solar on your roof, I mean solar for other people. Through its new Twelve B Energy Fund, Grovest is offering investors a tax-enhanced investment with underlying exposure to solar projects. To learn about this, you can listen to this Ghost Stories podcast with Jeff Miller of Grovest.

In other great new content today, Alexander Weiss of Trive South Africa gives a fundamental and technical overview of Woolworths and Shoprite. The retail sector has been hammered by load shedding concerns. If you keep a careful eye on technical levels, you'll realise that this creates trading opportunities. To see what I mean, read this excellent piece>>>

And if you missed it yesterday, I had the opportunity to have an in-depth discussion with David Hurwitz (CEO of Transaction Capital) about the recent disaster at the company and what the future looks like. If you're an investor in Transaction Capital or if you are speculating in this stock, you'll want to listen to this raw and unedited disc ussion>>>

Is the bottom finally in for EOH?

Turnaround stories end in different ways. Some of them are in business rescue (like Tongaat Hulett) and others are trying to figure out how the balance sheet will be saved (like Nampak). You can also end up with a scenario where it's very obvious that the creditors already have all the value, despite people continuing to buy shares (like Steinhoff). At EOH, we have an example of a company that has been saved and is now sustainable, even if the journey was very painful for shareholders.

In the latest earnings update for EOH, it looks as though operating profit has stabilised and that the benefit of debt reduction will be felt in the next period. Every dog has its day. Is EOH wagging its tail yet?

Speaking of dogs, Murray & Roberts isn't just wagging its tail - the company is jumping on the car door and licking the window. The share price has been on a charge, with positive recent newsflow driving speculation. There's no shortage of risk here, like in all volatile opportunities.

Right at the other end of the spectrum, we find PBT Group with its stready growth strategy and commitment to selling non-core assets. The latest sale looks set to unlock a juicy special dividend.

There are also updates from Advanced Health, Attacq, Master Drilling, Metair, Stor-Age, Super Group and Steinhoff. Read Ghost Bites to get it all>>>

Last week's news? It still matters.

Brought to you by Mazars, the latest episode covers Remgro, Steinhoff, York Timber, RFG Holdings, CA Sales Holdings, Master Drilling, Bell Equipment, Gemfields and Astoria. Find it here>>>

Local issues still plague the rand

Frustratingly, the dollar has been softer against other major currencies after the "dovish" hike by the Fed last week, but the rand just hasn't felt enough of the benefit. TreasuryONE notes that local issues have played a role in recent rand weakness, with our currency range-bound at the moment.

The action this week is likely to be on Thursday afternoon, with the SARB announcement and US Final Q4 GDP print being released just half an hour apart. A calm start to the week is unlikely to continue as the week comes to a close.
